Here's how to get from the zip file to playing your first game.
Download
Get the zip file and unzip it anywhere on your PC.
Run it
Double-click PlayFellow.exe. Windows might warn you — see below.
Pick a brain
Choose local AI (free with Ollama) or connect a cloud AI key.
Make a controls card
List the keys your game uses. Playfellow can only press these.
Play together
Watch it play, chat, and press F12 to stop anytime.
Windows SmartScreen warning
The first time you run PlayFellow.exe, Windows might show a warning. This happens because Playfellow is new and hasn't been downloaded by many people yet.
How to run it anyway: 1. Click More info on the SmartScreen warning. 2. A Run anyway button appears at the bottom. 3. Click Run anyway to start Playfellow. You'll only see this warning once. After that, Windows remembers your choice.
Verify the download SHA-256
If you want to check that the zip file is exactly what we released (not tampered with), compare its SHA-256 hash with the one below.

What you'll need
- Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) - Single-player games you play on your own, or the practice games that come with it - You must be 18 or older. The built-in brain needs no account and no key.
